# Change the sender address

> Send invoice emails from an address on your own domain, such as invoices@yourstore.com.

Use this guide if you want invoice emails to come from your own address instead of Invoice Falcon's. By the end, customers will see an address on your store's domain as the sender of every invoice, quote, credit note, and payment reminder email.

## Before you begin

- Sending from your own address needs the **Pro plan**.
- You need an address on a domain you own, such as `invoices@yourstore.com`. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and other free addresses can't be used.
- You need access to your domain's DNS settings, where you bought the domain or where it is hosted, to add three records.
- DNS changes can take a few hours to take effect. Until the domain is verified, emails keep coming from `invoices@invoicefalcon.com`.

## What customers will see

| | Before you verify | After you verify |
|---|---|---|
| **From** | Your store name, `invoices@invoicefalcon.com` | Your store name, your address |
| **Replies go to** | Your sender address if you entered one, otherwise your Shopify store email | Your sender address |

The sender name is always your Shopify store name. One sender address applies to every email Invoice Falcon sends for you.

## Set it up

1. Open your Shopify admin and click **Invoice Falcon** in the left menu.
2. Click **Settings** in the app's menu. The **Emails** tab opens.
3. In the **Invoice emails** section, click the **Sender** box. The email editor opens at **Sender**.
4. Under **Enter your address** (step 1), type the address you want to send from, for example `invoices@yourstore.com`.
5. Click **Save** next to "Save to get the DNS records."
6. Under **Add the DNS records** (step 2), click **Show DNS records**. Three CNAME records appear, each with a **Name** and a **Value**.
7. Add the three records at your DNS provider:
   1. Sign in to the place that manages your domain's DNS.
   2. Add a new CNAME record for each of the three records.
   3. Copy the **Name** and **Value** from Invoice Falcon with the copy button next to each one, and paste them into the record.
   4. Save the records at your DNS provider.
8. Wait for the DNS change to take effect. This can take a few hours.
9. Back in the editor, under **Check verification** (step 3), click **Check verification**.

When the domain is verified, you see "Domain verified! Emails will be sent from your custom address." and a **Verified** badge next to **Send from your own address**.

To share the records with whoever manages your DNS, click **Download as CSV** under the records instead of copying them one by one.

Some DNS providers add your domain to the end of the name automatically. If yours does, paste only the part of the **Name** before your domain, so the record isn't saved as `...yourstore.com.yourstore.com`.

## Check your setup

1. In the editor's sidebar, click **Subject and message**.
2. Click **Send test email** under the preview.
3. Open the test email and check the sender. It shows your store name and your address.

In **Settings** > **Emails**, the **Sender** box now shows your address.

## Troubleshooting

### Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other free addresses can't be used

Free email providers don't let other services send on their behalf. Use an address on your store's own domain, such as `invoices@yourstore.com`. If you don't have one, you can create it with your domain or email provider.

### Domain not yet verified

The records aren't visible yet. Check these in order:

1. All three CNAME records are added, not just one.
2. Each **Name** and **Value** matches Invoice Falcon exactly, with no extra spaces.
3. The name wasn't saved with your domain twice. See the note under Set it up.
4. A few hours have passed since you added them.

Then click **Check verification** again.

### This domain is not registered with our email provider yet

Click **Show DNS records** or **Download as CSV** first. That registers your domain. Then add the records and click **Check verification**.

### I can't see the DNS records steps

Steps 2 and 3 open only after you save a valid address in step 1. Enter an address on your own domain and click **Save**. If the steps are missing entirely and you see "Available on the Pro plan", upgrade first. See [Invoice Falcon pricing and plans](https://help.invoicefalcon.com/pricing-and-plans/).

### Emails still come from invoices@invoicefalcon.com

Your domain isn't verified yet. Open **Sender** and click **Check verification**. Until you see the **Verified** badge, Invoice Falcon keeps using its own address so your emails still go out.

## FAQ

### Will customers' replies reach me?

Yes. Replies go to the sender address you entered. If you haven't entered one, they go to your Shopify store email.

### Does this change emails I've already sent?

No. Emails sent after verification come from your address. Earlier emails keep the sender they had.

### Can I use a different sender for quotes or reminders?

No. One sender address applies to every email: invoices, quotes, credit notes, and payment reminders.

### Do I have to verify again if I change the address?

Changing to an address on a different domain needs the new domain's records and a new verification. Follow the same steps with the new address.

### What happens if I move to the Free plan?

Your address is removed and emails come from `invoices@invoicefalcon.com` again. Replies go to your Shopify store email.
