Add notes, a footer and social links

Print the order note, a footer message, your store domain and your social media links on your invoices.

Last updated

Use this guide if you want to add text around the items on your invoices: the note on the order, a thank-you message or return policy in the footer, your website, or links to your social media pages. By the end, every invoice carries your message, and customers know where to find you.

  • These settings belong to one template. Each template can have its own footer, store domain and social links.
  • Every setting here is available on every plan.
  • Changes also apply to invoices you already created, the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent.
  • The order note: the note on the Shopify order, such as delivery instructions the customer left at checkout or a note you added in Shopify. It prints below the items.
  • Footer notes: your own message, in small grey text centered at the bottom of the document. Line breaks you type are kept.
  • Store domain: the text you enter, such as your website address, under the footer.
  • Social links: links named Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at the very bottom, in your template’s accent color.

To open the visual editor:

  1. Open your Shopify admin and click Invoice Falcon in the left menu.
  2. Click Templates in the app’s menu.
  3. Click the template you want to change. The template page opens.
  4. In the Visual editor section, click Open visual editor.

When you’re done, click Save changes in the bar at the top of the editor.

There are two ways to print the order’s note. Both print the same note, so turn on only one.

  • Customer note: in the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Customer information and check Customer note. The note prints in a grey box just below the items, labelled “Customer note”.
  • Order notes: in the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Extra information and, under Notes and footer, check Order notes. The note prints next to the totals, under the heading “Notes”.

Orders without a note print nothing.

  1. In the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Extra information.
  2. Under Notes and footer, check Footer notes. A text box appears.
  3. Type your message, for example your return policy or “Thank you for shopping with us!”.
  4. Optional: to write the message in another language, open the Add a language… dropdown under the text box and pick the language. Then type the translation while that language is selected. Click Default to go back to your main text.

Each invoice uses the version that matches its language, and your main text for every other language. To set the invoice language, see Invoices in your customer’s language.

  1. In the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Extra information.
  2. Under Notes and footer, check Store domain. A text box appears.
  3. Type the text you want to print, for example www.yourstore.com.

The text prints exactly as you type it. Invoice Falcon doesn’t fill in your domain for you.

  1. In the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Social information.
  2. Check Show social links.
  3. Fill in any of Facebook URL, Instagram URL and Twitter URL with the full address of your page, for example https://facebook.com/yourpage. Leave a field empty to skip that network.

Templates made from the Classic design show the links as icons, under “Follow us on”. On those templates, enter only your page name, for example yourpage, because the Classic design adds the start of the address itself.

  1. Look at the live preview on the right of the visual editor. It uses a sample order with a note.
  2. Click Orders in the app’s menu and click an order number.
  3. In the Templates card on the right, select the template you changed.
  4. Check the note, footer and links at the bottom of the invoice preview.
The order note prints twice

Customer note and Order notes are both checked, and they print the same note. Uncheck one of them and save.

The footer or store domain doesn't show

The checkbox prints nothing until its text box has text. Check Footer notes or Store domain, type your text, and save.

The footer is in the wrong language

The footer follows the invoice’s language. If you didn’t write a version for that language, your main text prints. Add the language with Add a language…, or check the invoice language in Invoices in your customer’s language.

My social links lead to the wrong page on a Classic template

The Classic design adds the start of the address for you. Enter only your page name, for example yourpage, not the full address.

The order note doesn't show

The order has no note in Shopify, or neither Customer note nor Order notes is checked. Notes added to the order after the invoice was created appear once you open the Other menu on the order page and click Regenerate.

Do these settings change invoices I already created?

Yes. Existing invoices show your new footer, store domain and links the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent.

Can I add a note to just one invoice?

Yes, on the Pro plan. Open the order, click Edit invoice, then click Add custom note. See Edit an invoice.

Can I use a different footer on my quotes?

Yes. Each template has its own footer. Change the footer on your quote template.

Can I change the words Notes or Customer note?

Yes. Change them under Labels in the same editor. See Change labels and the date format.

Can I add other social networks?

Not from the visual editor, which has Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. To add another network, edit the template’s code. See Edit a template’s HTML and Liquid code.
