Show payment and shipping information
Choose which payment details, addresses, contact details and tracking information print on your invoices.
Last updated
Use this guide if you want your invoices to show how the order was paid, where it ships, and how the customer can be reached. By the end, your invoices show the payment status and method, the billing and shipping addresses, the customer’s email and phone, and tracking details if you want them.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- These settings belong to one template. Change each template you use.
- Every setting here is available on every plan.
- Changes also apply to invoices you already created, the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent.
- Everything here comes from the Shopify order. A detail only prints when the order has it. For example, tracking numbers appear once the order is fulfilled with tracking.
What customers will see
Section titled “What customers will see”- Near the top, the shipping address, with the customer’s email and phone under it. Next to it, in the order information, the payment status and tracking details, for example “Status: Paid”.
- At the bottom, a Payment Information section with the billing address, the payment method and the discount code.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Open your Shopify admin and click Invoice Falcon in the left menu.
- Click Templates in the app’s menu.
- Click the template you want to change. The template page opens.
- In the Visual editor section, click Open visual editor.
- In the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Payment information and check the details you want. See the table below.
- Click the back arrow at the top of the sidebar, then click Shipping information and check the details you want.
- Click Save changes in the bar at the top of the editor.
Payment information
Section titled “Payment information”| Checkbox | What prints |
|---|---|
| Payment status | The order’s payment status from Shopify, such as Paid, Pending or Refunded. |
| Discount code | The discount codes used on the order, in the Payment Information section. |
| Tracking company | The shipping carrier, once the order is fulfilled with tracking. |
| Tracking numbers | The tracking numbers, once the order is fulfilled with tracking. |
| Tax date | The tax date. See Show tax details on invoices. |
| Payment address | The billing address, in the Payment Information section. |
| Payment method | How the order was paid, in the Payment Information section. |
| Show amount paid with each method | For orders paid with more than one method, such as a card and a gift card, the amount paid with each. It can only be checked when Payment method is on. |
The Payment Information section only prints when Payment address or Payment method is checked. Discount code and the order’s total weight print inside it, so they need one of those two as well.
Shipping information
Section titled “Shipping information”| Checkbox | What prints |
|---|---|
| Shipping address | The address the order ships to, under the heading “Shipping Address”. If the order has no shipping address, the billing address prints instead, under “Billing Address”. |
| Customer email | The customer’s email, under the address. |
| Customer phone | The phone number on the address, under the address. |
| Localized tax ID (NIF/CIF, Codice Fiscale, CPF, …) | Your customer’s tax ID. See Show tax details on invoices. |
Customer email and Customer phone print inside the address block, so Shipping address must be checked too.
To rename headings like “Shipping Address” or “Payment Information”, see Change labels and the date format.
Check your setup
Section titled “Check your setup”- Look at the live preview on the right of the visual editor. It uses a sample order.
- Click Orders in the app’s menu and click a paid, fulfilled order.
- In the Templates card on the right, select the template you changed.
- Check the addresses, payment details and tracking in the invoice preview.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The discount code doesn't print
Check these in order:
- Payment address or Payment method is checked. The discount code prints inside the Payment Information section, which only appears with one of them.
- The customer used a discount code. Automatic discounts have no code to show.
The customer's email or phone doesn't print
Both print inside the address block. Check Shipping address as well. The phone also has to be on the order’s address in Shopify.
Tracking details are missing
Tracking only prints once the order is fulfilled in Shopify with a carrier and tracking number. If the invoice was created before that, open the order in Invoice Falcon, open the Other menu and click Regenerate. Regenerating replaces any changes you made with Edit invoice.
The heading says Billing Address instead of Shipping Address
The order has no shipping address, for example because it was picked up or has no physical products. The billing address prints in its place.
The payment status is out of date
Invoices you changed with Edit invoice stop updating from Shopify, and so do issued invoices when Lock invoices once they’re issued is on in Settings > Compliance. To pull the current status, open the Other menu on the order page and click Regenerate.
Can I show both the shipping and the billing address?
Yes. Check Shipping address for the shipping address near the top, and Payment address for the billing address in the Payment Information section.
Do these settings change invoices I already created?
Yes. Existing invoices use the new settings the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent.
Will a customer who paid see that the invoice is paid?
Yes, if Payment status is checked: it prints the status, for example “Status: Paid”. For a large stamp across the page, see Add a paid or unpaid watermark.
Can I change an address on one invoice?
Yes, on the Pro plan. Open the order, click Edit invoice, hover over the address and click Edit address. See Edit an invoice.
Why does the payment status say Cancelled?
The order was cancelled in Shopify. Cancelled orders show Cancelled whatever their payment status was.
