Show product details on invoices
Choose which product details, prices, discounts, quantities and taxes print for each item on your invoices.
Last updated
Use this guide if you want to control what prints for each product on your invoices, such as the image, SKU, HS code, compare-at price or the tax on each line. By the end, customers and customs officers see the product details they need, and nothing they don’t.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- These settings belong to one template. Change each template you use. Packing slips have their own template, so hiding a detail on your invoice doesn’t hide it on your packing slip.
- Every setting here is available on every plan.
- Changes also apply to invoices you already created, the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent.
- Product data comes from Shopify. A detail only prints for products that have it, for example a barcode or an HS code.
What customers will see
Section titled “What customers will see”Each item is one row in the items table: the product name, then the quantity, unit price and line total. The details you turn on print as small lines under the product name, for example “SKU: TSHIRT-RED-M” or “HS Code: 6109.10”. Some settings add a column to the table instead.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Open your Shopify admin and click Invoice Falcon in the left menu.
- Click Templates in the app’s menu.
- Click the template you want to change. The template page opens.
- In the Visual editor section, click Open visual editor.
- In the editor’s sidebar, under Content, click Items information.
- Check the details you want and uncheck the ones you don’t. Each group is described below.
- Click Save changes in the bar at the top of the editor.
Product details
Section titled “Product details”| Checkbox | What prints |
|---|---|
| Show product image | A small product photo next to the name. Products without an image get a grey placeholder. |
| Show product SKU | The variant’s SKU. |
| Show HS code | The product’s HS code, for customs. See Add HS codes. |
| Show product barcode | A scannable barcode made from the variant’s barcode (such as a UPC or EAN). |
| Show product weight | The weight of one unit. |
| Show total product weight | The weight of one unit multiplied by the quantity, with its unit. |
| Show country of origin | The country the product was made in, from Shopify’s customs information. |
| Show product type | The product type from Shopify. |
| Show product description | The product description from Shopify, as plain text. |
| Show note attributes | The order’s additional details from checkout, such as a delivery date added by another app. These print once in the notes area below the items, not under each product. |
| Show product variant | The variant name, for example “Red / M”. |
| Show selling plan | The subscription or preorder plan the item was bought with. |
Pricing and discounts
Section titled “Pricing and discounts”| Checkbox | What prints |
|---|---|
| Show discount | A discount column with each item’s discount amount. |
| Show discount reason | The name of the discount, under the product. |
| Show compare-at price | The variant’s compare-at price, under the product, for example “Compare at: $40.00”. |
| Show crossed-out price when discounted | The original unit price, crossed out, above the discounted price. Only discounted items show it. |
| Group amount digits | Separators in large amounts, for example 1,000,000. The separator follows the currency. |
Quantity and tax
Section titled “Quantity and tax”| Checkbox | What prints |
|---|---|
| Show total qty | A “Total items” row under the table with the number of items in the order. |
| Show item tax rate | A tax column with each item’s tax rate, for example 20%. |
| Show item tax amount | A tax amount column with the tax charged on each line. |
For tax totals and your customer’s tax ID, see Show tax details on invoices.
Properties
Section titled “Properties”Show properties prints the item’s line item properties under the product, as “name: value”. Properties are details customers add on the product page, such as engraving text.
Add HS codes
Section titled “Add HS codes”HS codes (also called HSN codes or tariff codes) come from your products in Shopify. To add one:
- In your Shopify admin, open Products and click the product.
- In the product’s shipping and customs information, enter the HS code. You can set the country of origin there too.
- Save the product.
- In Invoice Falcon, check Show HS code under Items information and click Save changes.
New orders show the code. For an invoice created before you added it, open the order in Invoice Falcon, open the Other menu and click Regenerate.
To print “HSN Code” or another word instead of “HS Code”, change the label. See Change labels and the date format.
Check your setup
Section titled “Check your setup”- Look at the live preview on the right of the visual editor. It uses a sample order.
- Click Orders in the app’s menu and click an order number.
- In the Templates card on the right, select the template you changed.
- Check the items table in the invoice preview.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The HS code, barcode or country of origin doesn't show
Check these in order:
- The product variant has the value in Shopify.
- The matching checkbox is checked on the template the invoice uses.
- The invoice was created after you added the value. If not, open the order, open the Other menu and click Regenerate. Regenerating replaces any changes you made with Edit invoice.
The crossed-out price doesn't show
It only shows on items that have a discount. Items at full price print one price.
Note attributes print at the bottom instead of under a product
That’s expected. Note attributes belong to the whole order, so they print once in the notes area below the items. To show something per product, use Show properties.
The item tax columns are empty
The order has no tax on those items. The columns stay in the table but have no rate or amount to show.
The items table is too wide
Each of Show discount, Show item tax rate and Show item tax amount adds a column. Uncheck the ones you don’t need, or try the Compact design in Choose a template design.
Do these settings change invoices I already created?
Yes. Existing invoices use the new settings the next time they’re opened, printed, downloaded or sent. Data that’s missing from an older invoice, like a newly added HS code, needs Regenerate.
Will my customer see the SKU and HS code?
Yes. Everything you check prints on the PDF your customer gets. If a detail is only for your warehouse, show it on your packing slip template instead. See Print packing slips.
Can I show the discount as a percentage?
Not from the visual editor. Show discount prints the amount. To print a percentage, edit the template’s code. See Edit a template’s HTML and Liquid code.
Is Show total qty the number of products or of items?
Items. An order with 1 of one product and 2 of another shows 3.
Can I rename columns like Qty. or SKU?
Yes. Change them under Labels in the same editor. See Change labels and the date format.
