Invoices in your customer's currency
Show invoice amounts in the currency your customer paid in, instead of your store's currency.
Last updated
Use this guide if you sell in several currencies with Shopify Markets. By the end, a customer who paid in their local currency gets an invoice with prices and totals in that same currency.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- Enable multicurrency needs the Pro plan. If you move to the Free plan, it’s turned off.
- It only changes orders paid in a currency other than your store’s currency. Orders paid in your store currency look the same.
- The currency is set when the invoice is created. Turning the setting on or off affects new invoices. To update an existing invoice, regenerate it.
What customers will see
Section titled “What customers will see”| Setting | A customer in Sweden pays 1,080 SEK in your EUR store |
|---|---|
| Off (default) | The invoice shows every amount in EUR, your store’s currency. |
| On | The invoice shows every amount in SEK, as the customer paid it. |
Prices, discounts, shipping, tax, refunds and totals all switch to the same currency. Amounts come from Shopify, so they match what the customer saw at checkout.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Open your Shopify admin and click Invoice Falcon in the left menu.
- Click Settings in the app’s menu.
- Click the Document defaults tab.
- In the Language & currency section, under Currency, tick Enable multicurrency.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.
You can also reach this setting from the visual editor: in the editor’s sidebar, under Language & currency, click Currency, then click Go to Settings.
Check your setup
Section titled “Check your setup”- On the Orders page, find a new order a customer paid in another currency.
- Open it and check the invoice preview. The amounts should be in the customer’s currency.
- For an order placed before you turned the setting on, click Other, then Regenerate to rebuild the invoice in the new currency.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”I can't tick Enable multicurrency
It needs the Pro plan. Click the Upgrade to Pro link under the checkbox. See Invoice Falcon pricing and plans.
An existing invoice still shows my store currency
The currency is set when the invoice is created. Open the order, click Other, then click Regenerate. If the invoice has manual edits, regenerating removes them. See Regenerate an invoice.
An order still shows my store currency after I regenerated it
The customer paid in your store currency, so there’s nothing to convert. Check the order’s currency in Shopify.
Invoices switched back to my store currency
Enable multicurrency is turned off when a store moves to the Free plan. Upgrade, tick it again, and save. Then regenerate any invoices created in between.
Does turning this on change invoices I've already sent?
No. Existing invoices keep their currency until you regenerate them, and emails already sent are not changed.
Does Invoice Falcon convert the amounts itself?
No. It uses the amounts Shopify recorded in the customer’s currency, so the invoice matches what the customer paid.
Can I show both currencies on the invoice?
Not with a setting. If you edit your template’s code, the Liquid variables list under Totals & Currency includes exchange-rate and currency-symbol variables, such as {{ inverse_exchange_rate }} and {{ shop_currency_symbol }}, that you can use to add a second amount. See Edit a template’s HTML and Liquid code.
Does this change the invoice language?
No. Language is a separate setting in the same section. See Invoices in your customer’s language.
